Apart from their successful E3 2009 Press Conference, Microsoft had another party in LA as the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition awarded the Xbox Live with the official record for the Most Popular Online Console Gaming Service.

Just how popular is Xbox Live that it merited this recognition from Guinness? Oh, you know, just 20 million active subscribers, 67% of which represent the total install base as of May 2009. The certificate was presented to Major Nelson, XBL Director of Programming, General Manager Mark Whitten.

Said record will be included in the 2010 Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition that will launch early next year. In the book will be a comprehensive guide to gaming, as well as the latest gaming records, gaming history, and interviews with key figures in the industry.
