XBLA phishing update: Microsoft retrains customer support to deal with scam
Remember our previous report about the current phishing scam that’s going around victimizing Xbox Live subscribers (if you don’t, you MUST read it for your own sake)? Microsoft has finally acknowledged and is now seriously dealing the security threat.
The software mogul is now hard at work to ensure that XBLA subscribers’ accounts remain intact, even to the extent of retraining its customer support team to ensure that phishing victims will be treated properly and their accounts reimbursed.
Microsoft also wishes to clarify that the issue is not “failure of software technology” nor a security breach of XBLA or Bungie’s network.
However, you can protect yourself so that you won’t go through the hassle of calling Xbox customer support to retrieve your account. Always remember to not enter any information online via links sent through emails, and verify if the web page’s address is correct before logging into your account.
Microsoft is also chipping in the phishing awareness campaign, directing XBLA account owners to www.xbox.com/support to let users check out more tips in how to secure their account.
