Xbox 360 comes of age, beats Xbox sales
You knew this day was bound to happen, and many of you thought the day had already come. But now it’s official. Reuters (the Best Known News Service of the Known Universe) reported that the NPD Group (providing consumer and retail information and research since 1967) have the figures.
The NPD Group looked at sales of the Xbox 360 consoles for the first 13 months. It turns out the Xbox 360 had sales that were 6% higher when compared to the original Xbox.
What’s this in solid numbers? It means 3.79 million units sold for the Xbox 360 since November 2005. The original Xbox sold 3.57 million units in its first 13 months. Of course, this isn’t exact – according to Reuters, “NPD measures roughly 60 percent of U.S. video game-related retail sales and makes projections on the remainder of the market.”
So it’s an estimate, but a darn reliable one. As for Microsoft, it’s still eyes on the prize: the 10-million Xbox sales mark.
