No significant change in sales, huh, EEDAR? Well, take that! GamesIndustry reports that in the UK, the Xbox 360 Elite scored a positive 43% increase in their sales during the bank holiday weekend.
A GfK Chart-Track rep affirmed this number, adding that, “Essentially, looking at the price, obviously it’s the Elite that’s done the business with those sales.” Meanwhile, Xbox Euro boss Chris Lewis has said in a statement made after the announcement of the price drop that they strategized the price drop for this time to ensure they maintain the lead over Sony during the holidays and entering 2010.
We know that when we get to price points that are logical and sweet – and and EUR 249 / GBP 199 is certainly one of those – we know that we see exponential growth rates.
The holiday phase will give us seasonal growth of course, but we have a very bullish plan this year, we have bullish plans every year. Our appetite to continue to win, and hold our lead and grow our lead over the competition is very central to what we have planned in and budgeted in for the year.
On the other side of the world, while the Xbox 360 Elite price cut has yet to be announced for the Asian region, it looks as though it is not far behind. A Microsoft press conference will be happening in Japan tomorrow, and it is expected that here they will be announcing a 28% price drop to the 120GB model, translating to a US$ 305 price tag for Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. September 10 is the expected green-light date for the price cut in the Asia-Pacific region.
The competition is about to get a tad bit more interesting once Sony’s PlayStation 3 debuts on retail stores this week.
