Xbox 360 invades ESPN’s SportsCenter

ESPN SportsCenterIn what seems like part of their bid to dominate Christmas, Microsoft has cut a deal with ESPN that will have the Xbox 360 as the sole advertiser in an episode of ESPN‘s SportsCenter. According to ESPN’s Alison Lazar, the only other ESPN had a deal like this was with sports apparel giant Nike back in September.

Microsoft said in a statement that a total of seven minutes of national commercial time will be aired during the program. Among the commercials that will be aired is the previously European-only commercial “Cops and Robbers” – which will be aired in the U.S. for the first time – and the heavily-aired ad for Gear of War.

Details on how much the deal cost were not disclosed.

Additionally, Microsoft and ESPN will also launch a a three-week online sweepstakes called “The Ultimate Xbox 360 Entertainment Experience” at www.Xbox360winitall.com. To enter the contest, viewers will be quizzed on the commercials. Those who get three or more correct answers out of five questions will get a chance to win a trip to the Bristol, Connecticut set of SportsCenter and Xbox 360 games, systems and accessories.

The episode airs tonight at 8 P.M. PST / 11:00 P.M. EST.
