Xbox 360 jolly Down Under
“Demonstrable value for money backed by powerful hardware, plus a huge range of next-generation games and accessories.” These are the three things to which David McLean attributes the highest grossing week of the Xbox 360’s hardware sales in Australia since its launch in March this year.
McLean, Regional Director for Xbox Australia and New Zealand further beams that despite the entry of new competition in the market (that would be the PS3 and Wii, for you sleeping under a rock), Microsoft‘s next-gen shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, according to the company’s press release, the console gained AU$ 5.8 million dollars (about US$ 4.5 million) in sales across systems, games and accessories.
And more figures come in. According to GfK, market data supplier for the interactive entertainment sector, about US$ 2.6 million worth of Xbox 360s were purchased in the week ending December 13. And that’s yet excluding the sales of games software and accessories across the platform. Including those in the equation, Microsoft’s profits would go up to US$ 5.8 million that week alone.
If only Microsoft’s team in Japan could stir up the market like that.
