Xbox 360 kiosk games playable on CD-R

Microsoft’s attempts to shut out the hacker community from its potent Xbox 360 are already being met face-on by eager Xbox fans the world over. It seems that may have changed.

The recently distributed Xbox Kiosk Demo DVD has been scrutinized by enthusiasts who have found that you can play the games contained on normal DVD-R and DVD+R media. Picking apart the contents of the disc, users are looking for ways to boot homebrew apps.

While on that mission, the hackers have discovered that you can run a number of the game demos, separately, off of regular CD-Rs — provided they fit CD’s measly 700 megabyte storage restriction. It’s interesting to see what Microsoft’s reaction will be to the tinkering.
