Xbox 360 Movie Downloads doing better than Amazon?
GamesIndustry reports that the Xbox 360 is handling digital movie downloads far better than consumer competitor Amazon. Apparently audiences favor ease of use over the amount of available content.
Variety reports that US consumers prefer to watch content directly accessed from the Xbox 360 console’s hard drive rather than struggle with burning downloaded content from the Amazon.com Unbox service to discs.
It has even been suggested that box office flops are performing well as downloads on XBL, appealing to customers who are eager to download high definition content. Ross Honey, senior director for media at Microsoft‘s content and partner strategy group had this to say:
If you look at our sales charts, movies like The Perfect Storm, Unforgiven and Swordfish are all doing disproportionately better than you would expect, and the only explanation is that they’re available in HD.
The mentality is seems is thus: Hey HD and it’s up for download, why not?
