Xbox Live prepaid cards: growing pain?

problematic? It appears that there may be quite a bug going around via the Xbox Live Prepaid Cards. First noted by a disgruntled Xbox forum member last November, the number of people who‘s encountered the same problem has now ballooned to something that would make you say it’s definitely not an isolated case.

Some even had to resort to buying more than just a couple of cards, and still, they get the same error notification. “Can’t retrieve information from Xbox Live. Error Code 801613fb.” Apparently, that’s the dreaded message that the complainants got while attempting to redeem their 12+1 Gold subscription card and 1600/2800 points prepaid cards.

Over at MaxConsole, a complaining patron said in his letter that the most common response that people get when they call customer support (via 1-800-4MY-XBOX) is that the cards weren’t activated at the register, hence cannot be redeemed.

Well, Microsoft, it looks like you’ve got a pretty big bunch of inactivated cards out there. Given that the case may be so, what do you plan to do about it? We do hope Microsoft acts fast on this to avoid any further problems. If these problematic cards still are out there, then they should at least trace them and pull them out or something, so that people won’t have to waste their money on a spoiled merchandise.
