Yellow Dog absent at Gamer’s Day
Okay, here’s the bad bit: Linux, or at least info on how it will work with the PS3, is absent at the Gamer’s Day event.
Good bit? No reason for us to be disappointed about this and no reason for us not to expect Linux to be released for the PS3 on time. Why is this so? Well, Terra Soft announced earlier this week that the Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 will in fact be released for PlayStation 3 in November. This downloadable update will be able to be installed on your PS3, turning your system into a full-fledged PC system on the Linux OS.
We were hoping that details on Yellow Dog would be revealed during Gamer’s Day as we’re still in the dark on how it will work with the PS3. Will it take over and change everything right on boot? Is it a Network Feature? Will it be under one of the options of the XMB? Will it enable users to generate their own custom content for the PS3?
Gamer’s Day could have been a great time for Sony to give us at least some teaser info about it. Oh well.
