With Nintendo regularly releasing classic games on its Virtual console, you can expect at least a couple of old school RPGs to hit the system. One of the best examples of these would be the Ys series, a long standing Japanese RPG series which had a minor following here in the States.
Thankfully, it looks like Hudson Soft will be giving gamers a chance to experience the first two Ys games with Ys Book I & II, which was originally released on the Turbo Grafx-16 CD-ROM in 1990. This underrated RPG series showed a lot of the classic elements a fantasy RPG should have and still appeals to fans of the genre with surprising accuracy.
The game costs 800 Wii Points (around US$ 8) when it came out in Japan around a month ago. While Hudson Soft hasn’t confirmed a North America release for the game, the ESRB has already given it an “E” rating, so chances are we might just be seeing this title sooner or later.
Let’s cross our fingers that this classic RPG series gets it shot on local Wii consoles here in the States.
