Ed Bradley: On Miis, game controls, and developing for the Wii

Mercury Metldown Revolution

Mercury Meltdown Revolution
for the Wii is slated to come out on June 2007 for Europe, but it still has a Q2 2007 release date for the US. Since the game still has a lot of months to go before it conquers store shelves, it isn’t that surprising that Ignition honcho, Ed Bradley is busy talking about the game and how great it’s going to be. Recently he sat down and chatted with Eurogamer and since he has been talking about it a lot, we’ll just give you snippets of the interview.

When asked about the control scheme this is what he had to say:

We aren’t supporting the nunchuk but for those who really prefer the joystick experience the game does support the classic controller. The Wiimote controls are pretty simple: you hold the Wiimote sideways with the d-pad to your left and simply tilt it in the direction you wish to tilt the tray. The d-pad rotates the camera and the 1 and 2 buttons control the zoom.

He was then asked if they would be taking advantage of the online elements of the Wii, such as Miis, WiiConnect 24, among many other things. He said that they won’t be using them because “we’d like the game out on the streets in a timely fashion and partly because the online systems haven’t really “bedded in” yet.”

As for his take on what it is like to develop for the Wii, this was his honest answer:

Pretty straightforward for us as we worked on the GameCube previously. Although there have been the usual early-adopter issues such as comedy compilers that are still not really finished. You should hear the language around here sometimes…

Nothing but pretty good statements to the hands that feed them and gives them respect. Anyhow, to read the complete interview, click on our read link below.
