Let’s draw away from the Leipzig Games Convention for a while, with news coming out for Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 360), courtesy of Famitsu. The news piece from the Japanese mag talks about the game’s “new style” of telling its story through the main character (or lack of it), the new battle system, and what we can expect from the game’s demo.

According to Famitsu, Final Fantasy XIII will have a “new style” where there won’t actually be a singular person you can call as the “main character.” Rather, you’ll be experiencing the story from the perspective of multiple characters.

The battle system will be reflecting this new style. The battle system is party-based, allowing you to switching between characters during the actual fight. Maybe the same style we saw in Final Fantasy 12?

In the upcoming demo, which will be included with FF7ACC, we’ll get to play characters other than Lightening, including the blonde male in the image above. He’s still nameless, but it’s confirmed he’ll also have a weather-themed name (Cloud? Hah). The demo itself will be long – Square Enix‘s Motomu Toriyama said that:

Like the FFVII demo that was included with PlayStation’s Tobal Nol.1, you’ll be able to play from the opening through the prologue. We’re making it so that players will understand about the world of the Cocoon and how the Lucys are handled.

We’d like to make it something with lots of volume. I think it will be longer than FFVIIAC.
