Game-makers to profit most from the console wars

Who will make actual money? An article in Seeking Alpha asks, “Who will profit most from the gaming console wars?” According to their report, it’s going to be the game-makers who’ll be getting the most out of the deal, and not the console manufacturers themselves.

While Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony will definitely be getting a lot of return on their investments into next-gen in the coming months, it may also be a struggle for at least one of them to get by.

For instance, Sony’s pre-order circus and limited units for their console, as well as the financially devastating problems they’ve had with their batteries, will make it a lot tougher to get big money out of the Christmas season. For all console makers, however, they’ll have to bear with some loss as each console is subsidized.

The ones with the most to gain will thus be the software companies and the retailers. You can imagine how much a GameStop turns in from pre-order madness and actual console launches, so the release of two consoles will make it even more interesting for them. Game-makers, on the other hand, will be able to dip into each console enough to make profits from their games. If they’re a bit more daring though, they’ll place a good portion of their faith on one console, such as Ubisoft’s intentions for the Wii.

The true big winners, however, will never be the console and game-makers or the gamers themselves. It will be the deer and the antelope, and the lions and tigers of Kenya, as fewer big game hunters leave their homes to shoot animals in the head. Thank you, Cabela series of games, for making the world a safer place for Bambi and friends.
