New Super Mario Bros. Surges Past Half-Million Mark

Mario chuggin' along...To quote one of QJ.Net’s best writers, Chris C.,”Mario‘s not just a mascot for Nintendo, he’s an ambassador for videogames, an icon for gamers everywhere, a symbol of our common heritage, and cherished and respected the world over.” Well I couldn’t agree more, who wasn’t caught on the Mario mania? Every ‘true’ gamer has gone thru that “I can’t get enough of Mario’s mustache” fever once in his/her life (count me as one of the ‘unhealed’ ones).

It seems that fever hasn’t worn off, as latest records revealed that the New Super Mario Bros. title has surpassed the one-half million mark of total units sold – in just 35 days of it being out in the market. After being made available on retail stores last May 15, players seeking out to buy the game has, well, been popping everywhere like mushrooms.

The success is being attributed to the popularity of the “this is too easy” grinning plumbers, and to the classic feel of the game that attracts newcomers and old-school fans alike. I don’t know if Nintendo bigwigs can jump as high as Mario and Luigi, but I can sure hear those *ka-ching* sounds filling up their office – not very different to Mario stumbling upon a gold coin-filled room.
