“PSP 2” in the works?

Shacknews has posted some information which they have redeemed from ‘a reliable source close to Sony’ on the development of a “PSP 2”. The source told Shacknews that the device currently being worked on is a successor to the PSP, rather than a redesign of the current PSP system. The source also said that the successor will not use the UMD format for games or movies, and will will have built in hard drive support. The source named the device as “PSP 2”, and said that it may appear on the market sometime “in the next 3 years”.

When Shacknews contacted SCEA, SCEA representative Paul Murphy simply replied “As you know, SCEA does not comment on rumors or speculation.”
