Vanguard Developer Talks About In-Game Travel Modes

Vanguard

We have been giving you slew of updates about Sigil Games‘ MMORPG offering, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. We recently gave you a glimpse of how the game is shaping up by giving you a peek at its Beta 3 video. Now, Sigil Games designer, Vince Napoli, answered some questions with regards to travel modes in Vanguard.

When he was asked to elaborate more on the caravan system of travel, he says that this travel mode is pretty simple. “Through a tiny element in our UI, group leaders will be able to form a caravan by inviting their members to join them much like they do to form a group. Once you have accepted an invitation to join a caravan, you are free to log your character out at any location you desire. When you return to the game you have two choices – you either log in exactly where you previously logged out or you log in at the caravan leader’s bind point.

There were also concerns raised about offline players being vulnerable to attacks when fellow, online caravan members are attacked. Napoli mentions that it is impossible to die while offline but an attack can severely affect the whole caravan, in the sense that after emerging victorious from the attack, the caravan might be low on ammo and food. He also says that, “in the case of a caravan not reaching its destination or the leader dying, you have the option of returning to where you logged out in addition to your caravan leader.

For now, caravans can only hold a maximum of 6 players, they are also testing out a few restrictions based on the feedback from the beta. “A level limit is likely by release, as is some type of restriction on where your caravan may be “docked.” We are also toying with “unlocking” areas before you may caravan to them. For now, players will always have the choice of going to the leader’s bind point or finding his own way by himself.
