1080p fix needs some fixing?
The November 30 Dashboard update is meant to help Xbox 360 owners see 1080p, but a good number of them are seeing red – or black – instead. It’s working for some people, but for others, all they’re getting after the Dash update is black on their screens, frozen consoles or games…
If we’re going to have to make a list of every complaint made since the 1080p fix, we’re not going to get this article out in time. Let’s just say Major Nelson‘s blog post about the 1080p fix is swamped with complaints, and it’s gotten so overwhelming that the Major has passed all comments and concerns over to the Dashboard team. There are also a few running threads on the the same topic in the official Xbox forums.
Jump to the Digg about this topic, and it mentions the Ring of Death, VGA adapter malfunctions, and Microsoft not acknowledging the issue and billing US$ 140 for repairs (you do know that the Major said that the 1080p is a WORLDWIDE release, eh?), although the “not acknowledging the issue” part would be out the window if the Dash team’s looking into it, as the Major points out. (Billing for repairs are something else, though).
Ultimately, until Microsoft itself finally comes up with an explanation or a fix, we can’t say why this is even happening. Maybe it could just be overblown isolated cases of consoles not working for any number of reasons, none of which may have to do with the 1080p fix – but then how to explain what swamped the Major since his blog post?
