Xbox360 Ad: Wireless freedom

Taking its concept from the lovable French movie Amelie, this video ad for the Xbox 360 depicts the evolution of gaming, from having all those annoying wires to wireless fun. And no, it’s not preachy.

In fact, it’s straight to the point, focusing on the everyday experiences that all of us, at one point, went through, tripping over those darned wires. The concept is so simplistic, and yet, you’d find yourself smiling as you remember all too well those days. Probably that’s why this video ad is so effective.

And then the transition. The main character, Francois, is now grown up, and still enjoys playing video games. But now, no longer does he have to incur the ire of his mother for having those snake-like wires scattered about on the floor. He now enjoys his Xbox 360, and he is free. Not only that. He also has a wider variety of controllers, from the traditional ones to racing wheels — all wireless.

And it drives home the message. As gaming is one of the many outlets we have to free ourselves every once in a while from all the restricting reality surrounding us, then it is only fitting that the tools we have for it also do not restrict us. That is how fun is supposed to be.
