150K PS3’s in UK Update: Sony Confirms Rumor as…Pure Rumor
Before you fly to London around November 17 to get your hands on one of the 150,000 PS3 units supposed to be shipped there, you better read this: Sony, while not denying the rumor, said it has yet to determine how many PS3s will be on shelves in both online and off-line warehouses on PS3’s D-Day. “We have yet to confirm allocation for the UK territory,” said Sony. “We’re on target to ship 2 million units globally at launch and 6 million units by end of fiscal year” — meaning March 31, 2007.
The fake buzz started when GameFront quoted the figure from UK’s Official PlayStation Magazine. What the magazine printed was “Estimates suggest that UK stock allocation is likely to be in the region of 150,000 units, so don’t expect to be able to walk into a shop and snatch one off the shelf on day one.”
So there you have it kids. Don’t break your piggy banks for the plane tickets…with 2M PS3s destined to ship by launch date, looks like you won’t need it after all.
