16 year old shoots parents, kills mom, for taking away his Halo 3
What happens when you keep a psycho 16-year-old from playing Halo 3? If you’re the parents of Daniel Petric, you get shot. That’s right, the teenage boy shot both his parents, killing his mom, leaving his dad severely injured, all because they took Halo 3 away from him. Maybe his folks were right about taking that game away from him after all.
16 year old Daniel Petric snuck out of his room one day in September 2007 to buy Halo 3 – without the knowledge of his dad. He had been playing the game with his friends for some time, and he wanted his own.
When he got back home, his folks caught him with the game and took it from him because it was too violent. His dad, Mark, a minister at New Life Assembly of God in Wellington, kept the game in a locked box where he also kept his 9mm. Yes, he’s a holy man with a handgun.
Anyway, about a month later, on the 20th of October, 2007,Daniel hasn’t quite gotten over the Halo-denying incident, so he got his dad’s lockbox key to get the game…and found the gun next to it. Things went to hell after that.
According to Mark Petric’s testimony, he was sitting on the couch when Daniel came up behind him and said, “Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you.” Thinking it was a pleasant surprise from his son, his head suddenly went numb as blood poured from a gunshot wound. He later realized that his wife already laid dead on a nearby seat, shot in the head, arms, and chest.
Daniel even tried to frame his own dad by putting the gun into his hands. “Hey Dad, here’s your gun. Take it,” he said according to Mark.
Luckily, Mark’s daughter and her husband were coming over to watch the Indians. After a quick 911 call, Mark was saved. Daniel tried to make a run for it, but was eventually taken by the Wellington police. He now stands trial for murder and attempted murder.
All for Halo 3. It makes me wonder how the guy’s mind works, to be able to shoot your parents in cold blood all because of a game. This guy has serious issues. Violent video games, eh? Apparently, some people really can’t handle it.
