PS3 - Image 1It may have already been discontinued in North America, but the 20GB model PS3 will be living on overseas. According to IGN, Sony Computer Entertainment currently plans to continue selling the 20GB model of their next-gen videogame console in Japan.

“We’re currently not considering changes akin to North America,” said a representative from SCE to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu when asked about the decision to drop the lower-end 20GB model in North America. “However we would like to react flexibly with the market.”

To check how the market in question was doing, IGN also did a quick check via a few Tokyo game shops. IGN found both 20GB and 60GB models available for purchase. Used versions of both console packages were also sighted, with one retailer reportedly charging “42,800 yen (US$ 360) for a used 20 Gig model and 49,800 yen (US$ 419) for a used 60 Gig model.”

Retail prices for new versions of both PS3 packages in Japan are, respectively, 49,800 yen (US$ 419) and 59,800 yen (US$ 503).
