60% of PS3 owners ask: what’s Blu-ray?
If you were surprised to find out that almost half of DS owners and likely buyers have no idea that Nintendo’s handheld has dual-screens, get this: a good number of Xbox 360 owners don’t know their console is capable of HD graphics, while more than half of PS3 owners never knew that the machine could play Blu-ray.
More interesting numbers are coming up from NPD, as 1Up got a hold of the group’s “Next-Gen Functionality & Usage” report. Some 6,620 people were asked to answer NPD’s survey online. To be eligible, they had to be 6-44 years old and own a next-gen console.
Results have surfaced, listing 40% of PS3 owners that know of their console’s Blu-ray player. Half of those who were aware of the feature never watched Blu-ray movies on the machine. Some look down on anything not HD as a thing in the past, but 50% of PS3 owners don’t even know what high-def is all about.
It would be difficult to get a good sample size of Xbox 360 owners who availed of the HD-DVD player, so NPD skipped that part. Half of 360 owners, however, know they have access to a DVD player in the same gaming device. Only 30% know of the Xbox 360’s HD capabilities.
