Microsoft: 1 Million 360 Sales By Christmas, But No Price Cut

Xbox 360

Despite the launch of Sony‘s PS3 and Nintendo’s Wii looming around the 4th quarter of this year, Microsoft is confident in the ability of their next-generation console to hit the magic number of 1 million sales by Christmas 2006. Chris Lewis, Vice President for Microsoft’s home entertainment department, has once again reiterated the claim that there will be no price cut on the Xbox 360 before Christmas and that Microsoft have no plans to cut the price of the console which is steadily approaching it’s one year birthday as of yet.

During an interview, Lewis stressed that 360 offers “great value right now and great choice thanks to the Core and Premium systems. There is plenty to be driving demand”. And the statistics certainly support this. There have been over 50 million downloads on Xbox Live Marketplace so far, 60% of 360 owners are Live-enabled and more than two billion Microsoft Points have been spent, with eight million Live Arcade games downloaded by an impressive 65% of the Xbox Live community. Xbox Live has grown so much that it’s like it’s own country – it even has a thriving economy! Nintendo and Sony certainly have a challenge this year if they plan to get anywhere near Microsoft.
