Lost Planet producer says is an action shooting
Imagine defrosting after being frozen in ice for 30 years. All you remember from your pre-Popsicle days is how to fight. That and your burning desire to avenge your father’s death who was killed by an Akrid – the planet’s indigenous creatures. But as you continue to thaw, you uncover a sinister plot that threatens to destroy all life on the planet and only you can put an end to it.
That, according Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions producer Jun Takeuchi, is the main plot of the game. Takeuchi also said the game is not a shooter but an action shooter. What’s the diff?
“Lost Planet is a 3rd person action shooter…and we intentionally use this because Lost Planet has stronger action aspect than other third person shooters. We found that first person view was not suitable for this game. For example, using the grapple wire action and jumping would be difficult in first person view because it is very hard to judge your position in relation to other objects.”
Other Lost Planet facts we found in Takeuchi’s interview with Xbox Gazette are:
- Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a 360 exclusive
- The game was inspired by Starship Troopers, the Japanese anime ‘Soukou Kihei VOTOMS’, and Japanese Mecha designer Kow Yokoyama
- The planet’s hostile weather conditions is an important gameplay factor
- The game will support up to 16 players via Xbox Live but there will be no split screen option
Capcom has yet set a release date for Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions.
