This late update just in: Japan‘s Media Create says hardware sales in Japan hit low just after the New Year. A few days ago, we reported the hardware sales result as of the first week of 2007 where console sales – PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 – amounted to 283,510. But from January 14, the total sales of the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 dropped to only 128,274 units in total. Below are the breakdown of sales for the three consoles:

  • Wii – 93,708
  • PS3 – 25,531
  • XBox – 9,035

Much to the speculation of many, the anticipation of Blue Dragon coming out for the XBox 360 has lifted the 360 sales in the region in early December, probably much to the relief of Microsoft. It’s clear now that the dwindling numbers would probably level back to the usual before the game launched.

Wii is still enjoying the patronage of its homeland, although the numbers reflect a second-lowest result since the 85,439 units sold in the week when the Wii was launched.

PS3 shipments were announced to hit over 1 million units in Japan, although purchases don’t actually reflect this number. But they will surely have a lot of surplus stock to sort through.
