The figures from PriceGrabber was derived by comparing and processing stats from leading shopping sites in the UK such as Amazon, Comet and Play. While the Sony PS3 has more than doubled in web interest, it can be remembered that the searches for the Microsoft Xbox 360 was up by 250 percent in a similar time frame, while the Nintendo Wii scored an iimpressive 579 percent rise.

Analysts in the game industry have long pointed out that the PS3’s high price point is a key factor as to why the high-powered console isn’t as popular as its rivals. It has also been talked about that the Wii’s high search figures may be due to the short supply of the game system. On a side note, searches for new Plasma and LCD TV sets have also spiked up in relation to gamers wanting to get a TV to match their new consoles.
