Japanese PlayStation Store gets price hike
It looks like classic PlayStation gaming’s not the only thing that firmware 1.70 is bringing to the PS3 and the PSP. According to IGN, a higher download price in Japan for all Game Archive games both old and new has also been instituted along with the new firmware.
Downloads through the service have held steady at 525 yen, tax included, since Sony started the PlayStation download program last year. As of April 26, however, each download now carries a tax-inclusive price tag of 600 yen. This is only in Japan for now, though, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any similar news that would affect those of us outside Japan.
Sony hasn’t released any official word regarding the price hike just yet, and IGN notes that the price change wasn’t even mentioned in the press materials announcing the start of PS3 compatibility with the service. The new prices are already reflected in the official Game Archive, though.
