See through lies using your DS with Heart Scan

Some of us can tell a person’s mood just by the tone of his or her voice. For everyone else who can’t, Sega came up with Heart Scan (Kokoro Scan in Japan) – a DS “game” that can analyze people’s voices to find out their underlying emotions.

According to Sega, the game can find out if a certain person is calm, jittery, happy, disappointed, or angry just by hearing that person speak. Supposedly, Heart Scan can even detect liars or anyone that can’t be taken at face value.

As a lie detector, you can ask someone to read a list of words and find out which one strikes a nerve.

Sega gave “rendezvous, extramarital affair, living together, divorce,” as examples, which would obviously provide revealing results if the game finds something fishy while your partner recites them.

Heart Scan will show some drawings and charts to help you figure out what the other person feels. Words like “The speaker more or less likes you” or “The speaker is agitated” will pop up on screen to make the detective work easier.

It may sound pretty convenient, but Sega wants to remind everyone not to judge people just by the tone of their voice. If your geeky boyfriend sounds nervous at the mention of “affair,” don’t jump into conclusions – he’s probably just shy.
