Blu-Ray Speculations
Concerns are running high that the delay which Sony has attributed to development of the Blu-Ray technology may also be in part to Sony being late to the game with the development tools, according to comments made by the head of the Japanese chapter of the IGDA.
The compiler for the Cell processor, a complex beast unto itself, was being developed by the specialist compiler company SN Systems, however when it was released at the end of last year, it wasn’t quite up to specification for the PS3’s requirements, prompting IBM to come to the rescue to get the compiler up to standard.
Speculation abounds that should this be the case, the PS3 launch game library will be slim pickings, and that the quality won’t be on par with their XBox 360 equivalents. However, with Sony tight-lipped about anything PS3 beyond their scheduled press, the rumors only continue to get bigger.
