The recent Godzilla Unleashed (Wii, DS, PSP) Designer Diary from Pipeworks Software revealed the different factions in the game and their roles in the game. If you’ve been keeping up on the latest news about the blog, you may already know that the game will have four factions: the Earth Defenders, the Alien Invaders, the Global Defense Force, and the Mutants.
The four factions are important since your monster will gain and lose “affinity” or reputation points based on their actions. The developers have decided to implement this by adding a 100 point scale in the game where hitting 70 points with a certain faction makes them your ally while dropping below 30 makes them your enemy.
If you decide to gain the Earth Defenders as an ally, destroying a set of power surge crystals or ambient crystals will net you some positive affinity. However, if you let your monster reach critical mass of you gain a power surge for yourself, your reputation will drop.
Those who wish to hook up with the Alien Invaders can gain the respect of the Vortaak by gaining power surges and destroying human military vehicles. However, this faction frowns upon the destruction of any alien military vehicle, ambient crystals or power surge crystals.
Allying with the Global Defense Force can be a relatively difficult prospect considering affinity can be gained by not destroying any human structures during an encounter and destroying alien military vehicles. However, being allied with the group ensures that human military vehicles will no longer attack you during battles.
Finally we have the Mutants. This looks to be one of the most fun factions to be allied with since all you have to do is destroy things. The only way to lose affinity with this faction is by not destroying any structures or vehicles during a battle. We’re guessing it must be really easy to hit 100 faction points with this group.
The developers gave word that while the factions can play an important part in the storyline, those players who just want to smash lots of things around can do so and still have a great time. If you want to pick up a copy of Godzilla Unleashed, it is slated to be out in North America by the holiday season.
