Not long after Halo 3‘s Heroic Map Pack was released, it was already revealed what’s in store for us for the next batch of downloadable content. In an interview, Steve Cotton of the DLC team elaborates more on the future of DLC packs.
It was previously revealed that the next DLC pack will have more symmetrical maps and “unusual” maps that offer interesting game types. Cotton returns to this subject, saying that the next DLC packs will continue to explore different types of gameplay.
The last update delivered on “a forge map, a big battle map and small teams map,” delivering different modes and styles. Cotton says that they’ll be delivering more maps that highlight different aspects of Halo 3’s strengths:
We definitely get feedback from the community, which helps a lot. We also have our own internal desires to get more small maps, more arena style maps, more asymmetrical maps in the game. There are all sorts of holes, and we’re shipping three maps, so we’re trying to fill those with the DLC.
We’ve got other ideas in the works to fill the others, and we just want to keep building that palette of maps so people still have fun in all the different types of gameplay. There are more of just about every kind coming down the pipe.
He later adds that the team will keep ’em coming for as long as people want to play Halo 3: “we’re going to support that as much as we can.” He hints that there are other projects that they are exploring but doesn’t give any further details so we may still be in for more surprises in the future.
