Pachter: A year more before PS3 steals Wii’s thunder

80GB PS3 - Image 1We’ve all heard it before: Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter firmly believes that the Sony PlayStation 3 will ultimately win the console war. In his latest predictions, he says it may take more than a year to do it. Having Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue isn’t enough. So what will it take for the PS3 to overtake current leader Nintendo Wii? Find out in the full article.

Nintendo Wii - Image 1Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is back with some more predictions concerning the never-dying topic of who will win the seventh-generation console war. This time, he says that the Nintendo Wii will continue its momentum for a year more, then the Sony PlayStation 3 will take command.

The catalyst for this change of momentum, says Pachter, will be pricing. He said that further drops in the PS3’s retail value will give consumers the last push to get the machine.

“I think the Wii momentum will last until the Playstation 3 is under US$ 300, so another year,” adds the well-known analyst in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Those who have been following the console war debate will know that Pachter has had his money on the PS3 from the very beginning. Even in the toughest times of the beleaguered console, Pachter expressed optimism that it will come out on top in the long run.

Pachter could be right, as fiscal 2008 is earmarked as the period when Sony will throw the first wave of big bombs. A revitalized PlayStation Network, the emerging dominance of Blu-ray, the impending launch of PlayStation Home, and the slated releases of big exclusive games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue are all factors being taken into consideration.

The only question that Pachter has to answer now is this: What if PS3 rivals Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360 cut their prices to compete?
