Screenshot of Capcom's Resident Evil 4 for Wii - Image 1It didn’t take very long for the rumor about the Resident Evil 4 Classic Edition coming to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 to be debunked. If you remember yesterday’s post, we were able to find a snapshot of a supposed RE4 cover art made for the Xbox 360 and PS3. However, it looks like that the rumor was nothing more than another elaborate prank to kick off the season.

According to a post found on the Capcom Unity forums, Capcom’s Vice-President of Strategic Planning and Business Development Christian Svensson flat out denied any plans of delivering RE4 to either of the next-gen consoles. This statement was made in response to a question posed by forum poster Sunglasses At Midnight regarding the rumored port of the game.

Svensson was quoted to have said that there were “no plans for RE4 on 360 or PS3 at this time”. In addition, he answered another question regarding any possible graphical restyling and new features the rumored port was supposed to have by simply stating that “that’s what RE5 [Resident Evil 5] is for”.

This was further supported by another Capcom spokesman who mentioned that Capcom had no artists that work in development in San Francisco, as previously stated by yesterday’s rumor. Here’s the light-hearted quote made by the spokesman regarding the matter: “Wow. Really? We work in San Francisco? I didn’t know that. Why does my business card say we’re in San Mateo? Darn it, I need to get it updated”.

I guess this means that everyone will just have to gird their loins and wait for the arrival of Resident Evil 5 (PS3 and Xbox 360) and stave off their disappointment in the meantime. No worries, though. We’ll be sure to keep everyone updated should we get any new information regarding Capcom’s Resident Evil series.
