In the wake of the March 2008 NPD results, Sony has decided to give its take on the sales figures that were revealed. While the PlayStation 3 failed to reach the expectations of certain analysts, Sony was quick to point out that PlayStation 3 sales show a “year-over-year sales growth of over 98%.” In addition, the company also cited the software sales which showed “a year-over-year growth of 139.2%.”
Sony Computer Entertainment America’s CEO Jack Tretton also shared a few thoughts on the company’s sales numbers. He noted that while the PS3 is going strong, the PlayStation Portable is also holding its own against the competition:
PSP expanded the portable market with more than 297,011 in hardware sales this month, driven by the monster releases of the two best-selling handheld games in March, God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.
Tretton hinted that this is just the beginning by saying that the sales figures “proves the trend that 2008 is the year for PlayStation.”
