GTA: Liberty City Stories Cheaper on PS2
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories convinced a lot of people to shell out $249 for a PSP, just so they can play the game that has gotten solid reviews left and right. So, imagine how these people felt when Take-Two Interactive announced that it will port the game to the PS2. Not good, I know, but they’ve already resigned to the fact that it’s going to happen and no amount of cursing and scowling can stop it. So they resort into their second most favorite pastime, speculating. Would the PS2 version have new features and content? Would it be exactly the same as the PSP version?
In a conference call with analysts, Take-Two CEO Paul Eibeler hinted that the PS2 Liberty City Stories won’t be much different from the PSP version, but the PS2 version will be cheaper. Eibeler said: We’ve been very, very successful at full price on the PSP, which is a different type of consumer. We’ve delivered a new game for the PSP, that’s a $249 purchase, and we’re looking at lower pricing on Liberty City Stories for the console, which is a $149 or below purchase.
At present, the PSP version of Liberty City Stories is retailed at $49.99. The PS2 version could debut at $39.99 if Take-Two is feeling the effects of its rival Electronic Arts’ price cut on some of its titles. Unconfirmed reports say that the game will cost $29.99. It may even have the same price as the Greatest Hits version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which is only $19.99. But at a cheaper price, don’t expect new content to the game. Besides, Take Two is satisfied with the game’s current form. We think Liberty City Stories is a great product, and we look forward to bringing together the console and handheld [platforms]…because it does tie back into the original Grand Theft Auto III storyline. It’s very engaging for the consumer.
