Pandemic’s The Saboteur has been known about since 2007 when it was first announced. As far as well can tell from screenshots and trailers, it’s a gorgeous-looking game with some interesting gameplay concepts, but don’t count on seeing it in stores this year just yet.

Speaking to VG247, Pandemic dev boss Tom French revealed that despite recent mags pegging The Saboteur (PC, PS3, Xbox 360 ) for a 2009 release, there’s still a lot of wok to do on the game:

We havenÂ’t said an exact date yet. We are getting closer, and we are getting closer to locking down that date. We want to make sure we hit the right window. We donÂ’t want to get lost, and hopefully weÂ’ll find the right window and the right place in time to get this game out.

So just how far into development is The Saboteur? Not too far, it seems. French admitted that they haven’t even reached alpha yet, but they’re not rushing. “There’s little quirks and kinks,” said French, “but we still have plenty of time to work that kind of crap out.”

Good on you, Pandemic. Polish that baby hard and make it shine. Nobody wants to spend some hard-earned cash on a half-baked game.
