Xbox 360 Production to Increase to More Than a Million a Month by Year’s End
Microsoft is really making the most of its head start in the next-gen console market. One of its three manufacturing partners, Wistron, is looking to increase its production so that by the end of the year, one million Xbox 360s will hit retail shops worldwide. This is Microsoft’s answer to Sony’s plans of shipping one million PS3s every month worldwide, starting in November. Combining Wistron’s production with two other manufacturers will result in more than one million Xbox 360s in the market. Do we really need that many 360s?
Speculative minds are on overdrive as they see Microsoft banking on a possible PS3 hardware shortage. If gamers are able to hold off buying Xbox 360s in anticipation of the PS3, what makes Microsoft think that a PS3 shortage will make gamers switch to the Xbox 360? A price cut, maybe?
