Pandemic may have closed down but the Mercenaries franchise will still be going strong. Staying true to their earlier statements that Pandemic’s key franchises will live on, Electronic Arts recently announced that a new Mercenaries game is on the way.
Tentatively called Mercs Inc., the new game will be developed by EA Los Angeles, who now counts former Pandemic members among its ranks. EA senior VP and group GM Nick Earl said that EALA is “forging new ground and conceptualizing new ideas.”
No platforms, release windows, or game details yet, although Superannuation did manage to unearth a pitch video for the upcoming game uploaded by a Pandemic visual artist. It looks like the video has since been made private, though, so let’s just settle for this description from GameSpot:
At less than a minute long, the clip features a wealth of characters leaning out of speeding cars to shoot similarly situated opponents. The trailer emphasizes cooperative and competitive multiplayer action, stating that players can play with, drive with, or simply kill their friends.
As for the rest of Pandemic’s properties, only The Saboteur (PC, PS3, and Xbox 360) is a lock. That one’s still set for release next month, on December 8.
