Moroccan Peasants Come to Guild Wars

NCSoft will son be coming out with its next expansion for Guild Wars, which will take players away from the Europe of Charlemagne’s time to the Moorish world. The expansion, which has yet to receive a title, was previewed at the recent E3 convention in Los Angeles.

According to those who were treated to a “sneak-peak,” the buildings are similar to those seen in Tunisia, although a savannah-environment indicates a location somewhat further south – and the new music is “Marrakesh.” New NPC’s and creatures include “dervish-like, robed and masked” bedouin types, evil monkeys from Wizard of Oz (sans wings) riding “tusked hippos,” and (shades of Dune!) a “giant flatworm.”

There wasn’t much indication of what  new professions would be, but two characters – a woman in a white robe with some kind of double-bladed staff, and an unarmed “bald monk” gave some hints. The latter, according to one reviewer, may represent a kind of “bare-knuckle” warrior class.

No release date has been given, but with two development teams working on expansions, anxious GW fans shouldn’t have to wait long.
