Apple is once more said to be thinking about funding ChatGPT provider OpenAI.

Apple is reportedly considering investing in OpenAI, the makers of the popular ChatGPT, as a way to strengthen Apple’s position in the AI market. Apple’s Apple Intelligence initiative, which will be released later this year as part iOS 18, will allow users to link Siri to ChatGPT for queries. Apple could inject cash to deepen the partnership between the two companies. According to the Wall Street Journal, there are talks about Apple investing in OpenAI as part a new round of funding. The amount of the investment is not known, but it will likely be in the billions. Thrive Capital, a venture capitalist firm, is leading the round. It is expected to be worth several billion dollars. Apple is not the only major tech firm that could invest in the venture. Microsoft has invested $13 billion in OpenAI since 2019. It owns a 49 percent share of its profits and is believed to be investing more as part of the ropund. Apple was reportedly searching for a new board observer role at OpenAI after the WWDC announcement. This could have been Phil Schiller. Microsoft resigned from its observer seat, putting an end to the July rumor. Apple’s investment is a logical one, as it works directly with the company to improve its Apple Intelligence efforts. Apple could also deepen integration in a way similar to Microsoft’s own products.
