A quieter yet slower Xbox 360?

Xbox 360 - Image 1Would you rather have your Xbox 360 play games quieter, but at the expense of slowing down the disc drive speed? It seems that it’s a choice we all soon have to make. German site Cynamite is reporting that debug consoles have been given a software update that did exactly the same.

Here’s an excerpt from the site’s report. Please pardon the translation:

Microsoft delivers since short one a software update to the technical literature, which makes the Xbox360 substantially quieter. The possibility is given by the update to the play manufacturers to drive the drive assembly speed down of the box. So far the drive assembly always runs with plays with full speed – or not at all.

Cynamite also added that the update will soon be made available to every console. We have to keep in mind though that since the drive is running slower, data processing is reached slower as well. If this pushes through, the loading speed of games will definitely be affected.

Quieter, yet slower Xbox 360. That’s a thought but the pressing question now is, “Is it worth it?”
