Activision Blizzard orphans Ghostbusters and Riddick finds home in Atari

Eight games were left rolling with the tumbleweeds after Activision Blizzard dropped them to make way for its merger.
Now we can all heave a collective sigh of relief for at least two of them. Atari has officially picked up the publishing rights to Ghostbusters (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS) and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3). While Riddick has been officially confirmed, Atari wouldn’t officially comment on Ghostbusters, although sources (as well as Dan Aykroyd himself) already seem to take it as a given.
This is good news for both the games and Atari. Atari’s been in a slump lately, and is still recovering from near bankruptcy. It’s good to see that they are still exploring avenues in full-blown video games instead of diving headlong into becoming “just an online company.“
Talks also has it that Atari will continue to publish future Ghostbusters video games if the first one proves successful. And I’m no analyst, but I’m pretty sure it’ll sell – hopefully enough to pull Atari back as one of the industry’s top gunners.
Still on the limbo list after Activision Blizzard‘s merger is Brutal Legend, Scarface, and the Bourne games. 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand was recently picked up by THQ.
