And Now, For The Little Ones…Ariel is Back
Most of Little Mermaid Ariel’s fans weren’t even born when she made her debut back in 1989…and a good number of her original fans may very well have daughters of their own, by now.
In either case, whether you’re an old fan or a youngster discovering this Disney classic for the first time, you will want to take a look at Buena Vista’s latest release, The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, scheduled for a fall release in conjunction with a 2 DVD Special Edition of the original film.
Disney’s version is a good deal happier than Hans Christian Andersen’s original (which was actually quite dark and morbid). The single-player game on the Nintendo DS platform allows the player to take a virtual “swim” around Ariel’s home waters, discovering treasures from the “World Above” and solving a rather puzzling (but, BV games assures, enjoyable) mystery. Of course, all the original characters are included, and thirteen levels of gameplay should keep the player happily occupied for a long time. One of the more intriguing features gives aspiring singers a chance to exercise their “pipes:” to unlock some of the treasures, the player will need to sing into a microphone.
The game has not yet been rated; it is recommended for girls between age six and nine.
