Battlestations: Midway Trailer

For those of you who haven’t had the chance to see it yet, here’s the trailer to the upcoming Eidos naval action-strategy game Battlestations: Midway, available for download. Plunge right into the heart of one of the most brutal campaigns in naval history, the clash of the American and Japanese navies across the Pacific in World War II (all pictures captured from the trailer).

While there are many WWII-themed games out there, and not a few that touch on the Pacific theater of that war (like, for example, Blazing Angels), it’s quite refreshing to see a console war game played from a larger, more strategic perspective.

If we may be allowed to speculate, the strategy genre on the console is an untapped market just waiting for titles and accessible ports of PC RTS games – say, along the lines of this game,  Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars? On behalf of strategy fans everywhere, let’s hope we see more of these games.

Eidos has slated Battlestations: Midway for a February 2007 release. And it can’t come any sooner for those of us ready to take to battle on the high seas.
