Bizarre Creations on PGR4: We’re not letting go ’til it’s done

Bizarre Creations is pulling out all the stops in developing Project Gotham Racing 4. Microsoft wants the game out by September, but business director Brian Woodhouse told Eurogamer, “We’re not letting go ’til it’s done.”

Project Gotham Racing 3, while a worthy launch title, wasn’t without flaw. Hardcore racers who push themselves to the limit would’ve noticed some difficulty issues for some of the Platinum goals in PGR4. “I can’t argue with that. We just ran out of time. We feel like we’ve got more time [on PGR4]. Last time round, we feel like we got the game ripped away from us,” said Woodhouse.

PGR4 is definitely a beefed up next-gen racer based on what we know so far, and it’s not without hardwork that fans will be getting a better experience from this latest installment. It’s a no-brainer that launch titles would be restricted with tight deadlines and limited resources for the new console, but PGR4 is not under the same pressure.

Here’s the gist of what Woodhouse said:

“[PGR3] looked great, but we struggled a little bit to commit time at the end to really balance the game properly. This one, we’re not letting go ’til it’s done. This time around, because we’re building it on a modular tech base we’re able to bring the game up really early and think about all of those things as we go through, instead of me saying to you as a game designer, ‘okay here’s the game, you’ve got two weeks [to balance it]’.”

With that promise is another: PGR4 will be a game with high production values. Woodhouse stated that Bizarre “spent a fortune building this game.” Having seen trailers and looking at the info we have at hand, we’re not surprised.
