Our last post on Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War said “Not a lot of details have come out yet…” That was over a month ago. Well, we are happy to report the info drought is officially over as KOEI reveals tons of info and screenshots about its upcoming historical PS3 mega-opus.

Bladestorm is set in Europe during the early half of the 14th century. The continent is simmering over the succession to the French throne. Eventually the friction ignites into a full blaze known today as the Hundred YearsÂ’ War. The cast of characters features real-but-larger-than-life legends Joan of Arc and Prince Edward (aka the Black Prince).

In Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War, gamers assume the role of a rogue commander of mercenary units fighting both the English and French forces. PlayerÂ’s command troops of infantry, archers, and cavalry, elephant units, cannoniers, and castle siege specialists. But its not just about flexing military muscles. Players have to play the right strategy card as required by the ever-changing challenges.

The game has a “Free Mission” system so players can side with either the French or English forces on a battle-by-battle basis. This gives players to take on different assignments and experience a given battle from an opposing side. In order to establish one’s reputation as a leader, players must successfully complete each mission. More reputable commander will attract more desirable troops and will be given harder battle assignments.

Among the members of the troops are:

Spearmen and Longspear men with Shields
Spearmen combine relatively long attacking times with moderate defensive abilities. Effective at intercepting cavalry charges, longspear men with shields are able to keep enemies at bay.

Pike men
Strong against infantry and capable even against cavalry, pike men are known for their ability to attack a relatively wide area.

Armored Axe-men
Capable of destroying nearly all enemies in their path, armored axe men possess high offensive and defensive capabilities.

Longbow-men and Archers
Even amongst archers, Longbow men are renowned for their long-distance attacking capabilities. Archers can mount horses to become a cavalry unit.

Bases
Each stage has over 20 types of strongholds including castles, forts, ruins, churches, and towns.
