Blu-ray vs HD-DVD: Porn Industry Will Be The Decider
While President George “the Decider” Bush makes his choices on national issues, it seems the outcome of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD’s battle to replace DVDs lies in the lotioned hands of the porn industry. E! Entertainment Television already chose the Blu-ray Disc format because of heavy-breathing talks the porn industry is leaning towards it. “Several major players in the porn industry (are) going the Blu-ray route,” said the E!. “If you look at the VHS vs. Beta standards, you see the much higher-quality standard dying because of [the porn industryÂ’s support of VHS]. The mass volume of tapes in the porn market at the time went out on VHS.”
According to analysts the porn industry has always been a leader and a “strong factor” when it comes to the use of new technology. Digital Playground, which claims to have produced the largest number of high definition “interactive films” in the industry over the past three years, is choosing Blu-ray Disc because of its greater capacity and because Sony chose the format for PS3 (hmmm do we smell porn on PS3?). Blue-ray has a 50GB capacity or nine-hours of hd content – which is a lot of porn. HD-DVD can only hold a maximum of 30GB.
Aside from Sony, Blu-ray is supported by Panasonic, LG Electronics, Philips Electronics, Disney and Fox. HD-DVD has companies like Toshiba, NEC and Warner Home Video on its side. Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD are the new optical-disc formats that are set to put DVDs in the boneyard of has-been technologies.
