BrandIntel’s Top Gaming Consoles report
BrandIntel, one of the leading companies in consumer and market intelligence solutions, has just released their Top Gaming Consoles report, which includes their consumer-generated research findings on the Wii, PS3, and 360.
In the hopes of not sparking any form of console war, we’ll try to present the data in the most unbiased and neutral way possible. (Read: please don’t flame us.) Here are their findings from the data gathered from January 1 to November 12, 2006:
- The Wii ranks first as we head into the holiday season because of its unique controller and lower cost.
- In general, consumers are complaining about the PS3’s price, raving about the Wii’s controller, and satisfied with the Xbox360’s first year on the market.
- A lot of gamers are also highly anticipating Nintendo’s franchise games such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, as well as newer titles such as Red Steel.
- The Xbox360 is generating the least amount of discussion in gaming circles but is still reaping its benefits from a year’s headstart and established consumer base. Because of this, it currently ranks second among next-gen consoles for the holiday season.
- The PS3 currently ranks the lowest according to consumer discussion. While the PS3 has been the most-talked about console, a lot of it has been negative, especially regarding the console’s price and value. However, purchase intent has recently trended upward, showing marketing campaigns have begun to persuade consumers who are skeptical of the PS3’s price/value.
As you guys have probably noticed, the data gathering for this report was conducted before the PS3 and Wii were launched. BrandIntel is not entirely unaware of this important factor, so they’ll be giving weekly online updates all throughout the holiday season to mark the changes in consumer sentiment/discussion trends as consumers start using their newly-acquired consoles. We’ll keep you posted for more.
