Call of Duty 2 Marketplace Content Generates $1m
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick told a bunch of analysts that the popular content packs for the shooter Call of Duty 2 on the Xbox Live Marketplace generated about one million dollars for the company. There have been two content packs released; one that was priced at 5 bucks and the other one 10. The first one sold 105,000 times, and the second one 66,000 times. Do the math.
According to Activision this is “a critical first step in exploiting online revenue potential and extending the shelf life of our games.” I say those content packs are good and all, but it separates the users if the new maps become the popular ones. And some people don’t buy it because it’s simply too expensive.
Although many content for almost all online games has been released, Activision is the first one to hit the one million mark. Some companies, like Bethesda, haven’t released any figures (yet) though.
